The Student Ecological Society "Ecoinitiative" was established in 2010 on the basis of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Management of Volgograd State University. Currently, the society has the status of a public organization of the university level.

The purpose of "Eco-initiative" is to support, promote and implement student’s initiatives in the field of environmental protection. The main objective of the organization is to attract public attention to environmental problems and improve the level of environmental culture of VolSU students and the population of the city of Volgograd as a whole.

The main activities of the EcoInitiative are:

- Organization and participation in public, scientific and scientific-technical environmental events;

- Organization and participation in environmental protection events and clean-up Saturday events of various levels; preservation and maintenance of ecological well-being of the territory of Volgograd and Volgograd region;

- Organization and holding of thematic environmental events.

Based on the results of its activities, the Ecological Society has diplomas and letters of appreciation from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, the Committee of Natural Resources, Forestry and Ecology of the Volgograd Region, the Ecological Council of the Volgograd Region Duma, regional public organizations (the "All-Russia People's Front"), etc.

The Student Ecological Society is a part of the Regional Ecological Headquarters of the Volgograd Region. Within the framework of the "Green Universities of Russia" movement, VolSU signed an agreement with the Interregional Public Environmental Organization "ECA" on cooperation in the field of environmental education and execution of joint interactive inter-university quests aimed at involving students to solve environmental problems and fostering a culture of respect for nature.
