The Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication of Volgograd State University deals with issues of philological and language training, intercultural communication and ethno-cultural dynamics in the context of globalization.

The faculty staff reaches the number of 150; there are 20 Doctors of Sciences and more than 62 Associate Professors. There are a lot of professors that have made the way from the Institute’s student to a Doctor of Philology.

Our professors regularly improve their high qualification during internships at leading universities of Russia, Austria, Bulgaria, Germany, Holland, Denmark, Poland, Serbia, the United States, France, and the Czech Republic.

The key activities of the Institute include the following:

  • development of innovative models of teaching Russian and foreign languages, including Russian as a foreign language;

  • training professional journalists for print, broadcast and social media;

  • studying of cross-cultural integration and migrant’s adaptation;

  • development of practical approaches to the socio-cultural adaptation and migrant’s integration, as well as the ecolinguistics principles.

The Institute is fully equipped with modern language labs, multimedia and rooms. The Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication is the only one in the Southern Federal District that has infra-red wireless simultaneous interpretation equipment. This equipment is considered as one of the most convenient and reliable, so it is used by the organizers of international summits and conferences.

Students are actively involved in the student research activity. Their cultural life is also diverse: contests of English, German, and French songs, days of national cuisines as well as thematic meetings with foreign students studying at VolSU and language clubs.
