Associate professor of VolSU participates in an international Russian-Chinese session of the "Academic Community – 2026" forum

Olga Yakovleva, Associate Professor of the Department of Criminal Law and Procedure at Volgograd State University, took an active part in the international Russian-Chinese session of the  "Academic Community – 2026" All-Russian Forum of Higher Education Lecturers held in Beijing.

The offline program of the forum began during the Year of Russian-Chinese Cooperation in Education. The central event of the forum was the "Advanced Technologies in Education: Competencies, Ethics, Standards" All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference with international participation.

A welcoming address was delivered by Olga Petrova, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

The Chairperson of the League of Higher Education Lecturers delivered a report. The addressed issues included the response of Russian universities to the development of generative AI, the competencies development, ethical norms, and standards.

Chinese colleagues shared the practices of Beijing Normal University and Capital Normal University. Russian and Chinese lecturers, scholars, and specialists discussed international experience in implementing AI, its application in legal and mathematical education, the assessment of teaching quality, lecturer professional development, ethical issues, and risk management of new technologies.

Visits to the companies IFLYTEK and SENSETIME in Beijing were especially important and significant. During the meetings, issues of integrating AI into the educational process, testing learning devices, and dictionary pens were discussed. Participants became acquainted with a voice assistant, image generation, digital lecturers, and avatars. The participants then continued their work at Beijing Normal University, joining the Global Smart Education Conference 2026. The conference has been held since 2020 and serves as an annual platform for the Global Smart Education Network (GSENet). It is organized by Beijing Normal University and the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education. The theme of the 2026 conference was "Reimagining Education in the Age of AI: Equity, Quality, and Sustainability."

The discussion was devoted to the transition from individual experiments with neural networks to the systemic implementation of AI in universities, new requirements for lecturer competencies, the quality of education, ethical standards, and responsibility in the use of digital technologies.

Participation in the conference allowed Russian lecturers to become acquainted with international approaches and to engage in professional dialogue.

Participants of the international Russian-Chinese session of the "Academic Community – 2026" forum visited the National Library of China in Beijing. All participants received library cards. As part of the session, participants visited the Russian Cultural Center in Beijing – one of the key venues for the development of humanitarian, educational, and cultural ties between Russia and China. Participants learned about the Center's main areas of work, its projects, and its activities to promote Russian education and culture in China.

On August 20, participants of the international Russian-Chinese session of the "Academic Community – 2026" forum visited two main historical symbols of Beijing – the Temple of Heaven and the Forbidden City. This allowed participants to see Beijing from a historical perspective and to better understand how architecture, philosophy, state tradition, and conceptions of the world intertwine in Chinese culture.
