Language in the digital age and migration linguistics: VolSU associate professor participates in an international scientific conference
Oksana Maletina, an associate professor of the Department of Foreign Language Communication and Language Education, participated in the "Herzen Conference. Foreign Languages" International Scientific Conference held by the Institute of the Foreign Languages of Herzen University. The conference brought together more than 200 researchers, teachers and translators from different regions of Russia, as well as from Italy, Germany, Israel, the USA, Uzbekistan, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
The "Herzen Conference" is one of the most reputable scientific events in the field of linguistics and foreign language teaching. This year, the main topic for discussion was the adaptation of language education to the digital era challenges: integration of AI into education, the use of digital tools and corpus technologies. The participants also discussed other topical issues of modern linguistics and foreign language teaching, including the language diversity due to the influence of social and cultural factors, cognitive and pragmatic aspects of communication, linguistic culturology and phraseology as a reflection of a national mentality. Issues of the literary text hermeneutics, translation, intercultural communication, theory and practice of language teaching in secondary and higher education, as well as peculiarities of teaching Oriental languages were also analyzed.
Assoc. Prof. Maletina made a report titled "Specifics of Developing Communication Competency in Students of Non-Language Related Majors during Bachelor and Master studies" in the "Theoretical Models and Methodological Solutions in Foreign Language Education in Secondary and Higher Education" section.
In her report, Assoc. Prof. Maletina highlighted key challenges in developing foreign language communication competencies in students of non-language related majors and presented a complex of methodological solutions that can help to increase teaching effectiveness with the consideration of digital era requirements.
Assoc. Prof. Maletina also mentioned the high level of the event organization and pointed out the significance of such platforms for exchanging innovative ideas in the language education sphere, as well as for strengthening academic ties between Volgograd State University and leading linguistic centers of Russia.
