Speaking about Uzbekistan's foreign policy
On September 16, 2024, an online lecture of Dr. Ranohon Tursunova, Associate Professor of the Department of Social and Humanitarian Sciences of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, was held on the platform of the Center for Public Diplomacy of Volgograd State University.
Dr. Tursunova gave a lecture on the new doctrine of foreign policy of the republic of Uzbekistan. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Georgia and Turkiye were the first to recognize the independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the United States was the first country to open an embassy in Tashkent. On March 2, 1992, the Republic of Uzbekistan was admitted to the United Nations.
The speaker noted that Uzbekistan pursues a peaceful foreign policy, the country is a member of leading international organizations: the Organization of Turkic States, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Commonwealth of Independent States. The issue of Uzbekistan's possible accession to the EAEU or the WTO is still under consideration.
Transport corridors were also discussed during the meeting; Uzbekistan has no access to seas, and logistics chains for cargo delivery are of particular importance to Tashkent. Dr. Tursunova noted that among the republic’s priorities outlined by the country's leadership, the most important are relations with Central Asian states, protection of Uzbekistan’s borders, and regulation of the migration issue.
