Communicative workshop for Linguistics graduate students

Communicative workshop for Linguistics graduate students_01.jpgAlong with digital competence, communicative competence has become a key factor in training modern specialists. Willingness and ability to build communication and dialogue is the basis of teamwork, which is the key to success of the whole team.

First year graduate students of the Linguistics educational program have once again shown and proved that studying the theory and practice of interpretation and translation forms an efficient set of skills and abilities that help to successfully organize the communication process, obtain the necessary information, express one's position and achieve the desired effect.

The training, which took place as part of the Theory and Practice of Discourse course, was conducted by Prof. Vera Mityagina, Head of the Department of Theory and Practice of Translation and Linguistics. During the training, students performed interesting exercises to practice the skills of active listening, formulating right questions, clarifying and encouraging to give a detailed answer, paraphrasing and interpretation.

After that, they paraphrased well-known lines of poetry, acted out certain dialogues (for example, what to say if you are stuck with your boss in the elevator and need to add "Yes, and also..." to each idea already expressed?) The students also tried to prove what may others like in a certain historical era or a country or why a famous person might be interesting... Besides, as a homework assignment, it was proposed to analyze a number of communication exercises. The participation in the workshop provided the graduate students with a good opportunity to improve their communication skills.
