The RUR Ranking agency has published the results of the global ranking of universities Round University Ranking (RUR) for 2021, which includes universities from 74 countries of the world.

It should be noted that Round University Ranking is rapidly gaining popularity among Russian universities. For comparison, in 2016 only 23 Russian universities took part in the RUR, in 2020 the number reached 82.

2021 became a record year in terms of the representation of Russian universities in the ranking - out of 867 universities in the world, 95 are Russian. Despite a significant increase in participants, Volgograd State University took the 762th position in the world ranking and 66th in the country, keeping the leading position among the regional universities.

The Democritus University of Thrace(Greece), Shanghai Maritime University (China) as well as Tver State University and the Kosygin State University of Russia have the similar positions near VolSU. The traditional leaders in Russia are Moscow State University, Moscow Engineering Physics Institute and Tomsk State University.

RUR experts evaluate universities on the basis of 20 unique indicators divided into four groups: teaching quality, research quality, internationalization and financial sustainability. VolSU showed the best results in terms of teaching quality (608 in the world and 54 in Russia).
