Students and professors of the Department of German and Romance Philology of Volgograd State University together with their colleagues from Samara National Research University took part in an online lecture by Dr. Oliver Herbst, the well-known linguist, professor from Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg (Germany).

Within the framework of the"Sprache in den Medien" ("Language in the Media Space") lecture participants discussed the issues of the language functioning in German modern mass media as well as the perception and interpretation of content by audience. Issues related to the manipulation of public opinion and the responsibility of politicians and journalists for the broadcast news were also discussed.

At the end of the lecture the participants decided to continue the discussion of current linguistic problems in an online format during the next meetings.
