1st Volgograd International Model of the SCO at VolSU

Volgograd International Model of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was officially opened for the first time atОткрытие Модели ШОС 2020.jpg Volgograd State University.

Director of the Center for Public Diplomacy VolSU Ms. Elena Parubochaya during her welcoming speech expressed hope that the SCO Model would be as successful as Volgograd UN Model project. The start of the SCO Model is really high-potential: not only Russian students were paid the interest to the event, but the foreign as well. Director of the Institute of History, International Relations and Social Technologies Prof. Dr. Ekaterina Vasilieva as well as Secretary General of the Volgograd International SCO Model Ms. Anna Prygunkova also welcomed the participants and wished them fruitful discussions.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is an international organization covering a significant part of the Eurasian space, including 8 member countries (India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan), as well as four members observers (Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran, Mongolia). Since the establishment of the SCO in 2001, its importance in the world stage has been annually growing. The SCO is aimed to develop strategic partnership between the countries for trade and economic cooperation, ensuring regional security and building a unique infrastructure network.

Volgograd State University has broad experience in organizing such significant events. It should be mentioned that the first Volgograd UN model was launched in 2010 and now it celebrates its 10th anniversary. Participants of the Model are students and high school pupils who discuss current world issues, acquiring diplomatic, leadership and public speaking skills as well as the ability to work in team.
