VolSU scientists discussed prospects for relations with Latin American countries
On 23 November, the Centre for Public Diplomacy of Volgograd State University hosted a meeting with Dmitry Rozental, PhD in History, Acting Rector of the Institute of Latin American Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The meeting was entitled “Russia and Latin American countries: problems and prospects of relations”.
The event was moderated by Elena Parubochaya, Director of the Centre for Public Diplomacy of Volgograd State University, and attended by Ekaterina Arkhipova, Head of the Department of History and International Relations, and students from the Institute of History, International Relations and Social Technologies of Volgograd State University.
In his speech, Mr Rozental spoke about relations between Russia and Latin American countries, identifying groups of countries that maintain a constructive dialogue with the Russian Federation or refrain from close relations.
The speaker noted that Latin American countries have not imposed sanctions against Russia, but are forced to take them into account due to concerns about secondary sanctions.
The speaker also stressed that the Russian Federation and Latin American countries still have tools to strengthen dialogue. First of all, it is necessary to further strengthen cooperation in those areas where it is already established. There is an opportunity to exchange technologies, for example with Brazil. There are many opportunities for educational dialogue, as well as for business.
Mr Rozental concluded by saying that the Russian Federation has a historic opportunity to get closer to the Latin American region.
