VolSU became one of the venues of the International Forum "Dialogue on the Volga"

Volgograd State University hosted a round table titled "Youth Diplomacy in the context of the Eastern vector of development of scientific and educational cooperation" within the framework of the International Public Diplomacy Forum "Dialogue on the Volga: Peace and Mutual Understanding in the XXI century". It brought together experts in the field of international relations, scientists, representatives of authorities and the business community.

The participants of the meeting in VolSU connected online to the main site of the "Dialogue on the Volga" forum — the Volgograd Arena stadium. It was there that the First Deputy Governor of the Volgograd region Alexander Dorzhdeev solemnly opened the forum.

The "Dialogue on the Volga" forum helps to identify our common points, understand and listen to each other," Alexander Dorzhdeev noted, also expressing confidence that the forum will foster the implementation of new projects.

Head of Volgograd Vladimir Marchenko gave his speech online.

"It is symbolic that the forum is taking place on the eve of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Stalingrad, which determined the fate of the whole world. The "Dialogue on the Volga" is an international communication platform that promotes strengthening of international friendship," Vladimir Marchenko stressed.

The guests of honor at the opening of the forum were Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Russian Federation Kazem Jalali, Governor of the Vitebsk region of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Subbotin, Consul General of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Rostov-on-Don Burkhon Alikulov. Head of Rossotrudnichestvo Yevgeny Primakov also sent the video greeting.

First Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Valentin Dzedik opened the round table at Volgograd State University.

"I would like to welcome all participants on behalf of the Rector of VolSU Prof. Dr. Alla Kalinina. Volgograd is a place of dialogue between Western and Eastern civilizations, of cross-cultural interaction. The Eastern vector occupies an important place among the studies of university scientists. VolSU witnessed the opening of the Center for Korean Studies and the Center for Caspian Region Studies. Today, representatives of Turkey, Iran, Jordan, Kazakhstan and other countries are participating in the round table. We will discuss the youth diplomacy influence on the development of international relations. I wish you fruitful work and interesting discussions," First Vice-Rector announced to the participants of the meeting.

Director of Center for Public Diplomacy of VolSU Elena Parubochaya was the moderator of the discussion. Alexander Korolev, Deputy Head of the Eurasian Sector of Higher School of Economics, Associate Professor of the Department of International Relations of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs of Higher School of Economics, made the first report, speaking about new eastern dimension of Russian foreign policy.

One of the central topics was the discussion of the role of universities in the youth diplomacy development. Taisiya Marmontova, Associate Professor of the Higher School of Social and Human Sciences of the International University "Astana", presented the report titled "New formats of public diplomacy in the context of global geopolitical instabilityː scientific and educational vector".

"University is a conductor of public diplomacy, among its tasks is the formation of a positive image through foreign students and academic contacts. Today, universities are playing an increasingly important role in world politics. This is a unique discussion platform that can combine multi-format and multi-level dialogues," Taisiya Marmontova said.

Hakan Gunes, Professor of Political Science at Istanbul University, and Foad Izadi, Professor of the Faculty of World Studies at University of Tehran, also delivered reports in person.

The traditional International Forum "Dialogue on the Volga" was conducted in Volgograd for the ninth time. It is visited both in person and online by representatives of Russia, Belarus, Iran, Kazakhstan, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Jordan and other countries. "Dialogue on the Volga" has been held annually since 2014. The initiative of the Governor of the Volgograd region Andrey Bocharov to organize such platform was supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and the Rossotrudnichestvo federal agency.
