RFBR supported the research projects of VolSU scientists

осень12.jpgAs the result of the competition for the best scientific projects in the field of social and political sciences the projects of VolSU scientists will be funded from the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR).

The Modern Russian youth protest activity in the context of the global digital politics institutionalization project, the head of which is Dr. Prof. Sergey Pankratov, Head of the Department of International Relations, Political Science and Regional Studies, was supported within the main competition. The working group includes the following department members: Associate Professor Sergey Morozov, Associate Professor Elena Drinova, Senior Lecturer Sergey Gavrilov and Lecturer Diana Azizova. The Foundation will allocate 700 thousand rubles for this research.

Prof. Dr. Sergey Pankratov said that the research purpose was to conceptualize the models of protest activity formation and implementation of various Russian youth groups through the "digital culture" and "digital politics" phenomena as well as to prove the indicators that characterize the level, types and direction of protest activity.

The project by Kirill Makarenko, Senior Lecturer of the Department of International Relations, Political Science and Regional Studies, was supported according to the competition for the best scientific projects in the field of social and political sciences, implemented by young researchers.

Mr. Makarenko noticed that the topic of his research work was Catalysts for the civil protest transformation in the modern Russia: from social networks to street actions. The aim of the research is to identify priority factors for the civil protest forms transformation from the social media frustration to the mass demonstrations outside. 400 thousand rubles will be allocated for this research by the Foundation.

It should be noticed that VolSU researchers received funding for 62 projects from the Foundation in 2018. In the fall of 2019, VolSU young researchers (postgraduates Maxim Polyakov, Alexey Nazarov and Vlad Levshinsky) received grants from the Russian Foundation for the first time. In 2020, the grant holders were Dr. Ilya Kovalenko, Professor of the Department of Theoretical Physics and Wave Processes, Dr. Galina Sevryukova, Professor of the Department of Biology, Dr. Dmitry Ilyin, Head of the Department of Russian Philology and Journalism, Dr. Nikolay Shamne, Director of the Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication, Candidate of Sciences Oksana Sharno, Associate Professor of the Department of Constitutional and Municipal Law, Candidate of Sciences Sona Mkrtchyan, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Criminal Law, Dr. Marina Davydova, Head of the Department of Constitutional and Municipal Law, Candidate of Sciences Yurii Bokov, Associate Professor of the Department of Constitutional and Municipal Law, and Candidate of Sciences Vladimir Shinkaruk, Director of the Institute of Law.

Thus, the status of Volgograd State University as a center of technological, innovative and social development of the Volgograd region is annually confirmed.

The competition was held jointly by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR) and the Social Research Expert Institute (EISI).

The Russian Foundation for Basic Research was founded in 1992. The foundation is aimed to select the best scientific projects submitted to the Foundation, and then provide them organizational and financial support.

Volgograd State University is traditionally a grants holder from the largest Russian research foundations. VolSU participation confirms the demand for University scientists’ researches as well as the high level of scientific potential of the Volgograd region.
