University Day: Congratulations from VolSU Rector Prof. Dr. Alla Kalinina
Dear professors, students, postgraduates, specialists, veterans and alumni of Volgograd State University!
I would like to congratulate you on the wonderful holiday that binds us every year on May 24th – the Day of Volgograd State University! Today, we all look back with a special sense of pride at the development path of our university, remember the achievements, set goals for the future. Recently we have celebrated the 40th anniversary of VolSU: online, in the face of a pandemic and restrictions, but warmly, with love, like the birthday of a beloved alma mater.
During this time, we have more reasons to be proud of, first of all, in the scientific field. Researchers of Volgograd State University were awarded the Volgograd Region Award in Science and Technology for achievements in the field of Economics, Management and Finance. Our postgraduate students have won the competition of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research. Professors and young researchers have received Presidential grants, a grant from the Russian Science Foundation and scholarships from the Government of the Russian Federation.
The past year can be called the year of relations and cooperation development in many areas. Volgograd State University has signed cooperation agreements with Baranavichy State University, the Bank of Russia as well as the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandart) and the "Russia – the Land of Opportunities"presidential platform.
The agreement on the establishment of the Consortium named "Competence Center of the South of Russia for Training Foreign Specialists and Social and Cultural Adaptation of Foreign Citizens in a Multicultural Region", that united three universities including Volgograd State University (VolSU), Southern Federal University (SFedU) and Kalmyk State University named after B. B. Gorodovikov, became one of the important stages of our university’s path. The Center will serve as a basis for the implementation of joint projects with the ANO "Russia – the Land of Opportunities" for the development of soft skills for students and graduates. The other important agreement is the agreement between VolSU and United Registrar of Systems on the foundation and further development of "Innovative Management Systems in Science and Education" International Competence Center.
The "Eastern Vector" project is one of the strategic directions of university cooperation in 2021. Within the framework of the project, the research and educational center for Korean studies was opened at VolSU. It marked the beginning of cooperation between Volgograd State University and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in the field of oriental studies. In addition, a cooperation agreement and a memorandum of understanding on the development of research in the field of Korean studies were signed with Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University.
Our University was one of the founders of the Association of Researchers and Organizations for the Multilateral International Cooperation Promotion in the Field of Science, Innovation and Education in the Black Sea Region (nonprofit organization), which was founded in order to implement projects and programs in the research, innovation and educational fields, as well as to consolidate the research and technological potential of specialized organizations from the Black Sea Economic Cooperation region and other countries of the world.
Volgograd State University also became the academic leader of the PP-Technologies Consortium, which binds more than 2.500 of software developers from dozen IT companies. The university is the center of an international MetaCluster in the field of science, innovation, and education. This is a concentration of the best researchers and professors with the most modern scientific, laboratory and industrial equipment.
Finally, Volgograd State University became the only regional university to be included in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings in 2021. VolSU entered the top 20 among the 75 Russian participating universities.
These open up new opportunities, horizons and prospects for us.
On the University Day, which marks the next milestone in our history, I sincerely thank those who made these victories and achievements possible with their work and creativity – professors, researchers, specialists, students, postgraduates, veterans and alumni of Volgograd State University! Our university is you!
