Significant educational and scientific contribution within the GIP program

The GIP program (Germanistische Institutspartnerschaft) between the Institute of Philology and InterculturalА.Келлетат - почетный доктор ВолГУ_фото М. Фадеевой.jpg Communication of VolSU and the Faculty of Translation Studies, Linguistics and Cultural Studies of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (Germersheim) is included in the official list of projects of the Russian-German Year of Scientific and Educational Partnerships.

This program honors projects that make a significant contribution to educational and scientific cooperation between the two countries. The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Federal Republic of Germany Mr. Heiko Maas and his Russian colleague Mr. Sergey Lavrov opened the Russian-German thematic year 2018-2020 in December, 2018.

The GIP program has bound our universities since 2013. It is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Today, there are more than 90 internships for students, postgraduates and professors within the cooperation between our universities. Specific results of joint educational and research projects include the "Volgograd Walking tours" Russian-German travel guide, the "Volgograd Area – Travel-friendly Land" tourist information portal in five languages (https://volgaland.volsu.ru/ru) and a book on translation in the tourism. As for the current project, it is related to the publication of program articles written by leading researchers of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in the Russian language. Besides, five other leading Russian universities participate in this project.

The head of the partnership program (Germany) Dr. Stefan Walther notes that the students, who are involved in the projects, obtain not only cross-cultural, but also practical experience. The guiding principle of cooperation in 2020 is the use of online forms of education: particularly various online lectures and modular translation classes. Volgograd is considered as a center of translation didactics in future cooperation projects for other Russian universities.
