Сhess club opening at VolSU
The sixth President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), Russian statesman and politician Mr. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov visited Volgograd State University to take part in the opening ceremony of the chess club at the University.
The sixth FIDE President and the Acting Rector cut the symbolic ribbon and signed an agreement on the opening of a new club. Anastasia Gurova, a graduate of VolSU, Director of the Volgograd Chess Center also took part in the trilateral signing ceremony.
At the end of the visit, Mr. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov discussed with Prof. Dr. Alla Kalinina the prospects of the chess club development and its role in the formation of this sport in the Volgograd region.
VolSU Acting Rector Prof. Dr. Alla Kalinina notes that “this is a game that combines sports and science, develops logical thinking, perseverance, the ability to make decisions, as well as admit defeat”.
