International students celebrated the traditional Russian Maslenitsa

Maslenitsa is the brightest, funniest and most entertaining of Russian holidays. Its history goes back to pre-Christian Russia. The main attributes of this celebration are the burning of the straw figure (chuchelo) of the Winter, amusements, sleighing and of course pancakes. Our international students celebrated the end of winter in the city of Petrov Val, which is located 190 km from Volgograd. Local residents welcomed the guests with all the breadth of the Russian soul. Students were immersed in the atmosphere of a real Russian holiday: they danced the national dances such as “Rucheek” and roundelays, sang songs, participated in contests. After that, students enjoyed a festive dinner with Russian dishes. In the end of this event, they were given small dolls-charms made with love by Russian craftswomen.

Some students shared their impressions of the trip: CDy2FhRqWaU.jpg
